Be the change you want to see in the World – Mahatma Gandhi
I feel so strongly about this these words I had them
tattooed on my forearm for everyone I come in contact with to see. Not that I
am suggesting you do the same BUT I am suggesting you take this words to heart
and try to live them every day.
If you are like most people you probably feel that you
cannot change the world. But change always happens in increments. Tiny,
sometimes almost imperceptible steps that add up over time and lead to vast
changes in the world around you. I would
like the people in the world to be kinder to one another. How do I help make
that happen? By being kinder to everyone I meet. I hold the door open for
someone, I’ll make eye contact with a complete stranger and say “hope your
having a great day”, and I smile more. Simple things that do indeed make a
difference to those around me.
What about you? Can you smile more, can you make it a point
to use the cashier’s name the next time you are checking out at the
supermarket. “Hey Kathy, how is your day going?” 9 times out of 10 she’ll perk
up and engage you in a short conversation. Doesn’t happen all the time but
beats just standing there staring at the food as she scans it, right?
We all have more power to produce change than we realize. Start
small and see how you feel. I promise you will like the feeling and you’ll want
to do more. You will become a change agent. And when there are enough agents
incredible things will happen.
